Getting my Holiday on this weekend!

This weekend, you'll see me getting my holiday on in two spots. Shopping and cheer all day! And, maybe a picture with Santa, it's not just for kids you know.

The Dallas Flea is Saturday. This indoor flea market in Dallas' South Side on Lamar features local vendors and artists selling some really great vintage, creative and all-around great things. I could finish my shopping list on the eclectic side this year!

Saturday night, it's Jingle Bells on Bishop in the Bishop Arts. With the theme of Christmas Past, I bet it will be like strolling down a street out of a Dickens book. The shops will be open, as always showcasing their wonderful wares. I can see a "one for you, two for me" thing happening. With a spiked Cider for cheer, I can't imagine doing anything else.

My dear friend Alana is on TV! While that is exciting enough, I actually watched the whole video and agree with what it says. The gist of it is, people are foregoing living together for a 'stayover' relationship where it is more than mere dating, but not rising to the level of commitment for living together or even marriage.

For me, the selfish singleton, that is the perfect situation. I'm old-fashioned enough to not believe in living together, but marriage for me has been too much of a big leap (or maybe it's just the guys I've dated? More on that another time....)

Having a deeper commitment while maintaining space, IMO, is the perfect way to make that next leap SLOWLY while maintaining independence and getting to know the person before having to discuss decisions such as growing up.

Thoughts? I realize the alter argument is that 'isn't marriage the ultimate goal?" Well, maybe for some people. For me? The guy that finally lands me is going to be one lucky guy. In the meantime, I'll take my space.

First of all, full disclosure, I was asked to try and review these products. The review is my own opinion.

I'm giving Osmotics Cosmeceuticals products a try. Really, I'm gave them a week but after the first day, I'm more than surprised at how much I like it. I had not heard of Osmotics before being asked to try the products, however they are available at select Nordstrom, Dillards, Henri Bendel and independent spas & boutiques (plus a few more, check out their website for the full details).

Physically this quality “girlfriend time" helps us to create more serotonin - a neurotransmitter that helps combat depression and can create a general feeling of well being. Women share feelings whereas men often form relationships around activities. They rarely sit down with a buddy and talk about how they feel about certain things or how their personal lives are going. Jobs? Yes. Sports? Yes. Cars? Yes. Fishing, hunting, golf? Yes. But their feelings? Rarely.

Women do it all of the time. We share from our souls with our sisters/mothers, and evidently that is very good for our health. He said that spending time with a friend is just as important to our general health as jogging or working out at a gym.

There's a tendency to think that when we are "exercising" we are doing something good for our bodies, but when we are hanging out with friends, we are wasting our time and should be more productively engaged—not true. In fact, he said that failure to create and maintain quality personal relationships with other humans is as dangerous to our physical health as smoking!

So every time you hang out to schmooze with a gal pal, just pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself for doing something good for your health! We are indeed very, very lucky. Sooooo let's toast to our friendship with our girlfriends. Evidently it's very good for our health."

Updated with a few pre-party pictures. The real photographer should have his up soon. It was such beautiful event at Marc Events and the music was buzzing with DJ Jennifer Miller. The art? Well, you can't go wrong with celebrity art and we raised alot of money for the kids. Our biggest item? Painting by Jenny the Elephant of course.

Our celebrity attendees Lisa Garza, Drew Waters, Dylan Hoey and Shannon Marketic added to the money raised. The silent auction was buzzing too with art/jewelry by Amanda Sterret, a football from Flozell Adams and a signed chefs coat from Stephen Pyles.

Thank you to all that participated - I hope to see everyone next year!

I love Bishop Arts District. Check out their site for all the great restaurants, shops, salons (Salon on Bishop - Pamela - holla!) and events. Maybe I'm biased since my parents both grew up blocks away and I was born at Methodist Hospital right up the street? But it is a really great cluster of really great places right in the 'hood on N. Bishop at Davis in Dallas.

Today, I found one of the cutest boutiques I've seen in a very long time. A little gem of a place called Epiphany Boutique. I snapped a few phone pictures (and am horrified at the quality, but imagine they are really cute) of a few items that stood out. Plus, I got a GREAT tulle scarf and a candle that smells JUST LIKE CLEAN LAUNDRY for $10.00! OMG! Great prices.

I love these Manolo pumps! I styled a fun outfit with nude colors so I can wear the outfit to many different places. It also sums up how I feel about love right now, newly single but ready for True Love.

The link and pictures are from the TopShop - cute stuff for the most part, but one of the trends is bright jeans. Hmmmmm.

In my opinion, brightly colored jeans are great in theory, but in practice they seem to highlight the bottom and the bottom-half. In other words, especially skinny-style, there's just a whole lot of focus on whatever junk you might have in your trunk. Me? There's a small Ford in there.

What about themed jeans? Like the flag-inspired jeans? I just can't do it. One trend I won't be following is this one.

Thoughts? Skinny girls, you can do this!

The Body Shop has launched Brush With Fashion Limited-Edition Make-Up in collaboration with London College of Fashion.

As part of the launch, Angie and I were invited to each have a one on one personal consultation with the extraordinarily beautiful Shalini Vadhera and a makeoer with Body Shop's new makeup line Brush With Fashion.

Janet: Let me tell you, it was amazing. Even more amazing? Angie's reaction to my makeover. I had eyes! Shalini is a master celebrity makeup artist and I easily could have hit the red carpet with that makeup. She took me away from my neutrals and into the dramatic silver, black and purple. Gorgeous! My brown eyes were anything but boring.

I tried very hard to pay attention to how Shalini applied the makeup, but I shouldn't have to remember too much since they gave me a card with every product used and where it was applied. Painting by numbers! I can't wait to re-create the dramatic eyes....too much for the office? I think not! A diva is a diva all day.

Angie: When I first saw the neutral color palette I wasn't excited. But then when Shalini pulled a 'neutral' green into it it gave me a new way to look at daily wear shadows. I loved that by just 'amping up' to a darker green I was good to go for a more dramatic effect. It's awesome that Shalini went towards a green accent color on my eyes. Also, Shalini tried the new Cheek Stain on me. I really thought the idea of a cheek blush that reacts to your individual pH was gimmicky (and Janet thought the application of it made me look like a rosy-cheeked doll) but it turned out that this was the prettiest blush I have ever seen on my palest of pale skin and, yes, it does adjust to your skin tone.

It's time. NYC, SATC and Big are calling my name. It's been too long since I've visited the Big Apple and, since my family has opened a new gallery on Park Avenue, I can't think of a better reason to go. Ok, maybe Fashion Week so I'll try to hit it all at once.

He's with Jennifer LeLash at the Fashion Delivers event at Tootsies, both looking quite stylish. Jennifer has an eye for picking out the 'next big thing'. She has done it more than once as well as launched the careers of many well-known models. Grant, she says and I believe, is the next big thing to hit fashion and there is nothing fickle about that!

I can't believe this product! It is an all-inclusive, all-purpose, everyday, healing lifesaver. I haven't found a place on my body that I can't use it and that it hasn't improved. I run a few drops through my wet hair for the ultimate smoothness and fly-away control (a drop or two on dry hair also controls fly-aways). I put a few drops in my hands and tap on my dry cheeks and they are instantly soft. I rub a few drops on the backs of my dry hands and elbows and, yes, viola! Soft and smooth.

There have been articles written on Argan oil's healing properties but I won't go into the scientific or holistic confessionals. But my own? It's wonderful. Give it a try!

Fickle isn't fickle about a signature scent

Signature scents. Who has one and what is it? Mine is Marc Jacobs and has been for years. I layer spray with body lotion. I'm recognized by it and get compliments all the time. I've always had just one scent. It's been Beautiful and Cartier in the past - now both seem too musky? The floral undertone of MJ is Gardenia - my favorite flower. Floral, but not overpowering. I Love it.

Growing up, I remember Mom wearing Estee Lauder Youth Dew - even today it brings back memories. My sister wears YSL Rive Gauche and it also reminds me of her.

Tell us what your signature scent is or what you're wearing now. BTW - I am excited for my Boyfriend sample to arrive with my Sephora order. Maybe a new scent?

Xen Tan for the palest of pale, like me!

Xen Tan Transform Luxe (admittedly, the only one of this line I've tried) works like a tan dream. I am the palest of pale, self tanning creams turn me orange. Even the most expensive brands, even the drugstore brands. And the all smell like....well, they stink. Because I burn in the sun, but love a tan like everyone else, a tan friend gave me the name of this product and I gave it a try. Love it! I chose the least color for fear of turning orange, but it gives a gradual build of brown color - not orange - and it has a nice vanilla smell! I use it every couple of days on my legs and, if I'm feeling daring, all over. I should knock off a star for being hard to get on my back, but won't because overall it is a 5-star product. Try it!

I admit, I wouldn't do this for an everyday nail color. But, I LOVE the 'stick on' patterns nail companies are coming out with in lieu of spending money/time on Shellac or Minxx. Last night, I tried Broadway Nails and I think they rock. Sally Hanson and Sephora have some fun styles too.

Easy to apply: just pick the right size for your nail, stick on, smooth out with the tool they give and file off the end. I applied a top coat for a bit more shine. Try it! Show us your results! Comment if you've tried these nails!

Fickle strikes again- new exfoliant ExfoliKate!

I really meant to run into Neimans and look at one pair of shoes - just look, not buy. I tried to duck and cover through the makeup department but it didn't work. Dior was having makeovers and it was the Beauty Event. Double whammy. I'll review the Dior later (hint: LOVE the Airflash spray foundation) but it's the Beauty Event gift with purchase that I want to talk about here.

First of all, very disappointed overall with the gift. The bag is cute, black was the only color that was left. Blogger Margaret got the pink on pre-sale, it's cute. But the 'gifts' inside were merely 4-5 samples, most of which were some sort of card/ad that said bring it in for a sales pitch then you get your mini product. No thanks.

But, the one shining star? Two packets of ExfoliKate by Kate Somerville. Love it! I used it last night and today my skin is baby soft and, I believe, a little brighter. It is a green gel that you lightly smear all over your face, leave for 30 seconds (believe me, you'll feel it working), wash off and voila!

You can get a small .5 oz at Sephora for $19, perfect if you want to try it before you commit to the bigger $85 2 oz size. But hurry, they sell out fast. Neimans is back ordered on the 2 oz size and only offers the 5 oz $185 size. I think you'll love it, even if you have sensitive skin. Enjoy!

I’ll admit I was late to the Target Designer Collaborations until about a year or so ago. So I might have missed some designers. Or maybe not. Ha ha. But to those of you interested in a limited edition dress, Target is bringing back some of its most popular dress styles Designs from the likes of Paul & Joe, Zac Posen, Thakoon and others. The Huffington Post link shows all the styles Not sure what will make it to my Target and if any of the dresses will be for me, but I am willing to check them out. And hopefully the price points will be good and not overpriced for a dress from Target. Report back if you see any this weekend. The line arrives March 13th.

It's Getting Hot in Here!! A trip to Contempo Spa at Planet Beach

Hello friends out there! Last night I was feeling in the need of some color and some relaxation. It was late in the day so I figured I could not get in to get a facial or any other relaxing treatment at such little notice. I had read about the Contempo Spa / Planet Beach company on the D website and D Nightlife page on Facebook. (“like” them on Facebook and call to get a complimentary treatment!) I called and spoke to a “Lindsey” and she was able to get me in for a UV Tan and the Slim Capsule Treatment at the Uptown Location (link above)

While I knew what to expect from the tanning, I was clueless about the Slim Capsule.

The tanning bed was big and comfy and I felt like I got some color after just 12 minutes in there. (And yes, before you go all skin cancer on me, I tan at the most 6 times a year in the tanning bed. I know it is not the best thing to do all the time. But I don’t make habit of it. I don’t burn in there and I don’t go too long.)

What I was most curious about was the Slim Capsule. This is what they say on their website:
“It’s a great way to burn up to 500 calories in a 30-minute session.
Laying down inside a SlimCapsule feels a bit like entering a compact, Space Age-style sauna. Just like a traditional sauna, the device heats up the body’s core temperature so it will burn calories, not only while you are inside the heated “pod” but for several hours afterwards. Unlike a traditional sauna, a SlimCapsule covers your body only and leaves your head comfortably out, making it possible to stay inside for longer than a traditional sauna allows for.
It’s appropriate for anyone who wants to lose weight or reduce cellulite. It also can benefit people with injuries or physical limitations that complicate workouts and exercise.
Here’s how it works. The body is tucked inside the capsule and heated with LED bulbs and heating elements. The head sticks outside the unit, while a fan blows cool air on the face. Before getting into the SlimCapsule, you apply lotion and oil to your “trouble areas.” These two products help break down cellulite. The first SlimCapsule sessions get you to about 150 degrees. What I can tell you from my experience?? The lounge you lay on is comfy. It is soft and not hard like a tanning bed. Most importantly to know about the capsule? It was HOT! I lasted about 20 minutes in there instead of the 30 minutes. Next time I will know what to expect and I bet I can stay the 30. If you have an IPOD, listening to music would be a great way to pass the time. And you will SWEAT. Tons! I feel like I had done an hour long workout with the sweat that was pouring off of me. It may just be temporary water weight, who knows? But I felt like I had somewhat toned up and did not feel as “squishy” in places when I got out. For the next time I will really make sure I drink a lot of water beforehand. I had a little bit of a headache afterwards until I replenished with some water. I drink a ton everyday anyway, but the day I do this? I might up the amount the hour before I head to the slim capsule.

Also-- I was afraid I might feel too "closed in". I did not. There was wiggle room for my feet and hands and I could push up the top easily and at a moment's notice if I got hot or felt too closed in. I DO NOT like tight spaces but I was totally ok with this.

This is a tanning spa with other treatments available. So as with any tanning salon, there is some sales pressure to join. If you can make good use of it some of the memberships might work for you. The thing to remember is each “treatment” counts as a “session”. So to do the Hydra Massage and then Mystic Tan counts as two sessions. Which would come off of your overall sessions for the month. And that can add up quickly and take away from your overall total. (Whether you have purchased 4, 8, 12 or unlimited sessions).

I think I am going back today to try either the Hydra Massage Table or the Hyrda Derma Fusion. My skin is in dire need of some moisture. Overall I bet I will go back and maybe do a membership until the 1st of summer arrives and the “real” sun and relaxation of lying by the pool wins out over being inside.

If you know me at all. You know I like to be tan, to tan, and just tanning in general. My favorite of all self tanning lotion systems is the Xen-Tan, but that will be another blog for another time.

Today I will have to talk about "Tan Towels". I love the concept and the portability of a Tan Towel. You can easily take them on that Spring Vacation and supplement the color you are getting or add to your color when the clouds are out.

Loreal Sublime Bronze, Estee, and a few other brands have all had a version of the tanning towelette. But Tan Towel is the one who started the craze. They come in half-body and full body wipes (for when you just maybe want to do your legs and not the whole body). They are easy to use, don't stain your hands, and stay fresh in the package for when you are ready to use them. TIP: When you use one, unfold it as you use it and it won't dry out so quickly. I stopped into Express this week and picked up a pair of their Body Shaping Full Tights. Normally I don't go head over heels for tights, but these are incredible. I took them out of the packaging and noticed they don't have a traditional waistband. Its like there isn't a waistband. When I put them on there wasn't that nightmare of gush over/below the waistband as a result. The texture is awesome, they don't feel binding and the color is consistently opaque throughout the tights. You look down at your legs and the opaque appearance makes even chicken legs look nice. I also like that when you take them off after wearing them for 10 hours you aren't left with those dreaded 'tracks' all over your waist/stomach area. They are normally priced over $20. So pick up a pair on a splurge or use a gift card on them. You will be glad you did.
